19 September 2017:

  • Adam Morton will be speaking to the Durham Branch of the Historical Association. The title of his talk is ‘The Legacy of the Reformation’.

4 December 2017:

  • Adam Morton will be speaking at the Literature and Philosophic Society, Newcastle, at 6PM. The of his talk is ‘‘Battling the Beast: the rise and fall of Antichrist in England c.1550-1700’.

7 December 2017:

  • Joan Allen will be speaking at the Tyneside Irish Centre. The title of her talk is: “The Language of Emancipation”: electoral reform and print culture in north-east England, 1819-1840’.

 

31 January 2018:

  • In conjunction with the Centre for 19th Century Studies at Durham University, the network will be hosting a ‘Research Conversation’ on the topic of anti-Catholicism in 19th century Britain. The event will take place in the Armstrong Building, Newcastle University, 1-5PM.

  • Speakers include: Jonathan Bush (Ushaw College), Harry Cocks (Nottingham), Hugh Macleod (Birmingham), and Sarah Roddy (Manchester)
